Patty Cake Taffy Pull

Today was a hard day

I don’t like to talk about it, but I often struggle. In one of my sessions, I told my therapist that I feel like I suck at doing life.

I was a terrible student. By the time I got to high school, I wasn’t sure I was even going to graduate. I didn’t hate school. Overall, I look back at my high school years with fondness. I just couldn’t concentrate in my classes. I had a hard time retaining information or focusing on what was being taught.

It wasn’t until my 40s that I was diagnosed with ADHD. I felt relieved and angry at the same time. I was relieved because I finally had a label for what I had known all my life—that my brain didn’t work like other people’s. I was angry for all those years as a student when I felt stupid. I don’t know that I’ll ever fully get past it.

Today was a hard day. It was full of anxiety and zero focus. I accomplished nothing, and I’m still trying to find a way to be okay with that.
